Ueshiba Sensei was born on
14 December 1883 in the prefecture Wakayama, and died on 26
April 1969. He developed Aikido. from Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu
and the Omoto religion intergrating the teachings of Sokaku
Takeda and Onisaburo Deguchi respectively.
Koichi Tohei
Koichi Tohei sensei was the
founder of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido. At the age of 17 he began
the study of Misogi and Zen. At the age of 19 he started to
study Aikido under Ueshiba and at 25 he starting studying
mind and body unification from Tempu Nakamura. He has spread
the principles of Ki and Aikido in the USA and Europe since
1953
Kenjiro Yoshigasaki
Doshu Yoshigaskai is the
founder of the KI No Kenkyukai Association International.
Born in 1951 in Kagoshima, Japan. he started to practice yoga
when he was 10 and later began the practice of Aikido directly
from Tohei sensei. He devoted a year to the study of yoga
in India. Since 1977 he has been teaching Ki and Aikido throughout
Europe, South America and South Africa
Organisations
British Ki Society
was founded in 1976 to promote the teachings of Tohei
Sensei in the UK.
Ki No Kenkyukai Association
Internationale
Established by Yoshigasaki Doshu to further develop
the concepts of Tohei Sensei. The organisation has
over 4000 members and 120 clubs predominately in Europe
but also in Africa and South America
British Aikido Board
The British Aikido Board is recognised by Sports England
as the only governing body for Aikido in the United
Kingdom. The Board also acts as an agent for insurance
and also promotes a nationally recognised coaching
scheme.
